Trials and tribulations of someone new to Chicago

There is great big city, on a great big lake, called Chicago. When the sun goes down, it is wide awake!

It is official....

Since I filled out my final paper work today, I thought it was time to document my experience. Many of you know, but some of you do not, that I have a new job. I am not putting in here what company it is with as I do not want to be googled so if you are curious I would love to tell you :) Here is how it happened:

End of January I am at work and I get a phone call. I assume it is another annoying client because they are the only ones who remember my name. She was a recruiter from a different company and they were hiring. She had written down my name in her files after I had waited on her one afternoon. She wanted to know if I was interested in switching jobs? I replied no, I was happy begging for hours in a part time retail job. She just would not take no for an answer :) So began a many month long process of interviews in attempt to find the right fit.

The first interview I had was in a building called the Citadel. It is right down town in the loop. A place I had never been. When I walked in I had to be checked in and go to the middle set of elevators after I was given a special pass. I think this pass was to prove that I was not a psycho and should be let passed the security guard. I think they need to increase their security! Either way, it was very over whelming and I felt very out of place. It did, however, lead to more interviews.

Over the last couple of months I have had about 5 interviews in various buildings with different levels of management and also a few phone interviews. It has provided me with great experience in the interview process as well as forced me to go to places in the city that I had never been because I always felt as though I would be out of place.

Finally, I was offered a job and accepted! I start in a little over a week. I am obviously a little nervous to be trained and meet new people, but I am very excited :) It was all in all a fun experience. Probably more fun because it ended well, but it is fun for me to say that I have been inside a few of the most important buildings in the city :)

Where is your mysterious new job at? The way you described it, it sounds like you've become a WIB (Woman in Black).

Oh no...It is with a "company"...Not at all WIB. Although, if I told you I would have to kill you...or at least erase your memory ;)
