Not everyone should reproduce.....

I have always had this thought, that not everyone should be allowed to reproduce; however, today, the reason for said thought was reaffirmed. I was on the bus this morning and so was a "mom" with her baby who looked to be about six months old. At first, I was just annoyed by the two b/c the mom was loudly yelling at her telling her to sit down. "Baby baby! Sit down!" Read above where the baby is only about 6 months old. There is no way that she is strong enough to stand on her own. Why is the mom not sitting the baby down then? Again, the mom yells, "Bad baby! (smack) Bad! Sit down baby! (Smack) Bad!)

A few things came to mind then. The first being that the baby must have the world's strongest legs because this mom is unable to help her sit down, or put her in the stroller that is in the middle of the aisle and not up in the front where there is a special place for strollers. The second being that the baby's name must actually be Baby because that is all she is called. Some one has a special love for the original Dirty Dancing. The last is the most important thought. Did she just smack her baby? A few times? I look around to see if the now crowded bus is noticing what is going on. Yes. Everyone seems to notice and is watching as thought it is a bad accident that you can't take your eyes off.

I wish I could say that interaction was the most shocking thing that the mother did but, alas, it was not. I am about to exit the bus, as are half of the people on the bus, including the mom and baby. My first thought, when I saw her stand up, was how annoying it was that she was going to make all the people standing move so she could get out in the front of the bus. Yes, annoying that they would have to move, but it made sense she would exit there as the bus has a floor that lowers to the ground for her baby inside the stroller to get out. Why didn't she just sit up there in the first place? This mother had other ideas. She wasn't, in fact, going to the front. Rather, she was going to exit right here in the back. How was she going to do this since you have to physically push the door open and hold it open as you exit and there are 3 stairs for her to get down.

As she tried to move to the stairs she was hitting everyone that she walked past. Was there a sorry uttered for rolling over the toes of many? No. Was there a thank-you said to the person who held the door open for her as she attempted to exit? Of course not. Was there even a smile or nod when a girl told her that the belt, that should have been around her baby strapping her in, was dragging on the ground? Nope! Surely there was a thank-you to the guy that lifted the bottom of stroller to help her down the stairs as we all realized that she was going down backwards and going to just pull the stroller. (Did you all catch that? She was walking down the stairs as though it was a ramp and pulling the stroller down each stair. Backwards. With a baby in it. Not strapped in.) But no. There was no thank-you. Yikes!
